We don’t sell wooden toys directly — what we do is hand-pick the genuinely good ones from across the major brands (Hape, Brio, Plan Toys, Grimm’s, Melissa & Doug, Tegu, Lily & River, and many more) and tell you which ones to buy. Our team (Chris, Sam, Jess, and Tom) tests every toy in real households before we recommend it. Below is the complete index of our picks, organised the way you’d actually shop — by age, by toy type, by gift occasion, and by budget.

Every page links through to Amazon for the current price. We earn a small commission when you buy through our links (at no extra cost to you), which is what keeps this site running.

What we look for in a wooden toy

Three filters we apply to every recommendation:

  1. Solid wood, not MDF. Particularly for parts the child will mouth or that bear weight.
  2. Water-based, non-toxic finishes. Look for ASTM F963 (US) or EN71 (EU) compliance.
  3. Replay value past month one. A $40 toy played with for two years beats four $10 toys forgotten by week three.

If you’d like our opinion on a specific toy not in our guides, drop us a note — we answer every email.
